About Alongside

Alongside is a diverse and inclusive social enterprise, and also the first one-stop end-of-life platform dedicated to providing support to the sexual/gender minorities in Hong Kong in advance planning, and bereavement support.

*Alongside is funded by the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund.

Leveraging the interdisciplinary expertise of our team members and collaborators, we provide comprehensive advance planning, terminal care, and bereavement support to the LGBTQIA+ community. Our services encompass education, consultation, and counselling in legal, medical, psychological wellbeing, and end-of-life care. We are dedicated to listening, understanding, and accompanying our clients and their loved ones during their most vulnerable moments.

All services at Alongside are provided by the LGBTQIA+ community or friendly service providers, ensuring an understanding of the needs of the community without any discrimination. Adopting a case manager system to handle and thoroughly follow up on each case, ensures personalized service and reducing unnecessary stress.

Mission

Empowerment of “Life-long” Autonomy of the LGBTQIA+ Community

The mission of Alongside is to empower the LGBTQIA+ community with personal autonomy throughout their lives. Leveraging existing legal mechanisms, we document individuals' preferences for property management and distribution, medical decisions, and end-of-life arrangements. This ensures that these wishes are executed by those they trust the most, be it same-sex partners, family, or best friends, in scenarios of incapacitation or passing to make sure we can face it with dignity and autonomy.

Vision

To face and plan for the inevitable death with dignity and autonomy

Alongside aspires to a world where everyone, regardless of their identity, status, wealth, gender, or sexual orientation, has equal opportunities and rights, and is empowered to face and plan for the inevitable death with dignity and autonomy.
