Alongside presents Hong Kong’s first VR Life & Death Education Workshop on Advance Medical Directive (AMD) — placing you inside real medical scenarios where you live through the stories of different characters in the first person. At critical moments, the decisions you make directly shape how each story ends.
Through immersive VR, we invite you to rethink what an AMD really means under the new legal framework: it’s not just a legal document for the terminally ill or those nearing the end of life — it’s a tool that protects everyone’s right to make their own medical decisions, so that even when you can no longer speak for yourself, your wishes are still honoured, and you can leave on your own terms, with dignity.
Bring this impactful VR life and death education experience to your organisation! We welcome collaboration inquiries from educational institutions, corporations, and community organisations. Get in touch via WhatsApp at 9777 8046 or email us at info@walkalongside.org.

Hong Kong’s First VR Life & Death Education Experience
Shot as a live-action, cinematic film, this experience vividly reconstructs real-world medical settings — with three distinct life stories and character backgrounds to choose from. Through immersive VR, participants step into the shoes of different characters from a first-person perspective, allowing them to truly feel the profound gravity of making life-or-death decisions.
An Immersive Experience of Autonomy and Choice
Participants face critical medical dilemmas where they must make the decisions themselves—with every choice directly shaping the storyline and ending. This highly interactive, immersive experience bridges the gap, transforming the abstract legal concepts of Advance Medical Directives (AMDs) into a deeply personal, real-world understanding.
Guided Reflection & Conversations on Life & Death
The experience concludes with a facilitated debriefing session. We guide participants to share their emotions, exchange personal stories, and practice perspective-taking to understand the different end-of-life choices made by each character. This helps participants walk away with a broader, more comprehensive understanding of life and death issues.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the workshop cover?
The workshop unfolds in three parts: first, an introduction to AMD under the new legal framework; followed by an immersive VR experience where participants encounter real-world medical scenarios from a first-person perspective and make critical choices at pivotal moments; and finally, a guided reflection session where participants share their feelings and exchange life stories — stepping into the shoes of different characters to understand their end-of-life decisions, and building a fuller perspective on life and death.
Will the experience be distressing or emotionally intense?
Since the VR stories explore themes of life and death, they may trigger emotional responses or bring back personal memories. This is completely normal and a natural part of the experience. We have safety protocols in place, including emotional support and professional guidance, and we encourage participants to express and process their feelings during the debrief. Our staff will be on hand to provide full support throughout the session if needed.
What should I keep in mind for the VR experience?
Some people may experience mild dizziness or motion sickness when using VR headsets. Our staff will help adjust the device to fit you comfortably and will remain on standby throughout the simulation. If you feel unwell at any point, just raise your hand and we will assist you immediately.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to anyone aged 18 or above with an interest in Advance Medical Directives, life autonomy, end-of-life care, or VR experiences — no prior background or knowledge required. Whether you are a member of the public, a healthcare professional, social worker, legal professional, or caregiver, you are welcome to join us for a meaningful first-person VR journey through life and death — and to reflect on the medical arrangements for yourself, your loved ones, or those you serve.
