Project Grief & Heal 2026 - Post-Disaster Collective Grief Mental Support Initiative

Free, trauma-informed clinical psychological and psychiatric services for people mentally troubled by the Wang Fuk Court catastrophe and its aftermath.

What is Project Grief & Heal 2026?

Project Grief & Heal 2026 is a self-initiated programme by Alongside created to respond to the urgent mental-health needs arising from the Wang Fuk Court catastrophe.

While we recognise the profound loss experienced by the families directly affected, the psychological shock felt by the wider public, neighbours, frontline workers, and digital witnesses should not be overlooked.

This programme focuses on supporting secondary victims — individuals who were not directly involved in the tragedy but are now experiencing fear, distress, sleep disturbance, or intrusive images because of the disaster.

Our aim is to provide timely, free, and clinically grounded care so early emotional impact does not develop into long-term trauma.

After a major disaster, many people underestimate how much fear, tension, or intrusive memories can accumulate over time. Left unaddressed, these reactions can quietly develop into chronic anxiety, depression, or PTSD.

That is why this programme is designed with minimal barriers to entry.

  • No referral is needed. Anyone who feels mentally affected can reach out to ensure timely, expert care before symptoms escalate.
  • Access to clinical psychologists and psychiatrists is often financially out of reach for many individuals. By offering these services free of charge, the programme removes a major obstacle and makes high-quality mental-health care widely accessible.
  • Most importantly, this is a stigma-free space. Seeking professional help does not mean someone is “sick” or “weak” — it is a responsible, proactive step towards maintaining good mental health in the aftermath of an overwhelming event.

Project Grief & Heal 2026 exists to ensure that emotional impact is recognised early, and that support is available without judgment, cost, or barriers.

This programme is created primarily for secondary victims — individuals who are experiencing ongoing psychological distress related to the Wang Fuk Court catastrophe.

Secondary victims may include people who:

  • Live in the neighbourhood of Tai Po
  • Have family members or friends living in the affected area
  • Were exposed repeatedly to distressing news or social-media content (“digital witnesses”)
  • Frontline social workers who supported affected communities
  • Media workers who covered or documented the incident
  • Healthcare personnel involved in treatment, support, or triage
  • First responders, including fire services, police, paramedics, and rescue teams
  • Other individuals mentally troubled by the disaster

If the incident has affected your sleep, mood, sense of safety, or day-to-day functioning, this programme may be suitable for you.

Project Grief & Heal 2026 provides two forms of trauma-informed support. Both are free of charge and delivered by qualified mental-health professionals.

1. Group Intervention (Emotional Stabilisation & Psychoeducation)

We will regularly host small-group sessions that focus on:

  • Grounding techniques and emotional stabilisation
  • Understanding common trauma reactions
  • Learning practical coping strategies
  • Sharing experiences in a safe, supported environment

Group sessions are announced separately on our website and social media, with individual registration for each round.

Group intervention also allows our team to identify participants who may benefit from more intensive clinical care, and refer them to our clinical psychologists or psychiatrists when appropriate.

2. Individual Therapy (By Clinical Psychologists & Psychiatrists)

Individuals needing deeper support can access one-on-one clinical care.

  • Simply complete the short form on this webpage
  • Our team will review your needs and match you to a clinical psychologist and/or psychiatrist
  • No referral is required

Care may include:

  • Trauma-focused psychological therapy
  • Psychiatric assessment and management
  • Ongoing monitoring of symptoms and functional impact

Each participant may be offered a unit of four individual sessions, with additional units provided if clinically indicated.

This pathway applies to individual therapy provided by clinical psychologists and psychiatrists.

Step 1 - Submit a Form

Submit a Simple Form on this webpage. No referral is required.

Step 2 - Review & Matching

We will review your information and match you with a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist according to your needs.

Step 3 - Begin Your Support

You will receive a unit of 4 individual sessions after matching and you can make appointments to begin your support.

  • The therapeutic relationship is strictly between you and the clinician
  • Alongside will not be informed of any clinical details, ensuring full confidentiality
  • Scheduling and follow-up communication will take place directly between you and the professional service provider

Step 4 - Review for Additional Support

After the first unit is completed:

  • We will ask the clinician whether an additional unit is professionally recommended
  • Based on their expert opinion, we may grant another 4-session unit to ensure continuity of care

Our role is to facilitate safe access; your clinical journey remains private and professionally guided.

Step 5 - Completion &
Evaluation

If no further sessions are recommended, your support journey will be considered complete.

You will be invited to fill in an evaluation form to help us review and enhance the service.

The clinical psychologists and psychiatrists listed here have been vetted by Alongside to ensure they hold the appropriate professional qualifications and relevant experience. This list will be updated continuously as new service providers join the initiative.

  • Administrative coordination (e.g., confirming session units)
  • Non-clinical reporting for programme evaluation
