Personal information collection statement

This Personal Information Collection Statement (“PICS”) is made in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data. The PICS sets out the purposes for which your personal data will be used following collection, what you are agreeing to with respect to Alongside’s use of your personal data, and your rights under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, Cap 486 (“PDPO”)

Personal Data Collected and Held

Personal data held by Alongside includes information collected directly from you, and information gathered during your interactions with Alongside. Such personal data may include names, contact details, and details of assets.

 

It is voluntary for you to provide the personal data requested by Alongside. However, your failure to provide the personal data may result in Alongside being unable to provide effective services to you.

Purpose of Collection

Alongside may use the personal data you provide for one or more of the following purposes:

 

  • to provide and facilitate services to you, whether by Alongside independently or in conjunction with Alongside’s partners, collaborators, and service providers;

  • to confirm and authenticate your identity;

  • to process billing and collection;

  • to comply with any legal or regulatory obligations;

  • for registration of events organised by Alongside;

  • to communicate with you;

  • to provide you with a more personalised experience in respect of

    our services;

  • for other matters directly related in our business operations; and

  • other purposes permitted by law.

Retention

Alongside will take all reasonably practicable steps to ensure that personal data will not be kept longer than is necessary for the fulfilment of the purposes (or any directly related purpose) for which the data is or is to be used. Exceptions may occur if the retention is permitted or required by law.

Transfer of Personal Data

If required for any of the purposes stated above, Alongside may transfer your personal data to third parties, including:

  • our employees, directors, and officers;

  • our insurers, bankers, auditors, and external legal and financial

    advisors; and/or

  • other service providers engaged by or collaborated with Alongside

    in connection with our services provided to you, such as lawyers, law firms, medical practitioners, clinical psychologists, counsellors, or funeral service providers.

Alongside may also disclose personal data when required to do so by law or court orders, or in response to requests from law enforcement agencies or regulatory authorities.

Access and Correction of Personal Data

You have the right to request access to and correction of your personal data held by us in accordance with the provisions of the PDPO. If you wish to access or correct your personal data, please contact our Data Protection Officer by email at info@walkalongside.org. Alongside has the right to charge a reasonable fee for processing any data access request.

Direct Marketing

Alongside will seek your consent before using your personal data for direct marketing. With your consent, we may use your name, contact number, correspondence address, and email address for marketing educational activities and events organised by Alongside, whether independent or in collaboration with Alongside’s partners, collaborators, and service providers. If you wish to withdraw your consent to direct marketing by Alongside, please send an email, stating your name, to our Data Protection Officer by email at info@walkalongside.org.

Unless specified otherwise, references to “Alongside” shall mean Alongside Limited.
